saturday, november 7, 1998bugger off, alreadyOnce in a while something happens that makes you want to go on. For me that came on November 3, 1998. First Tuesday in November. The national elections. No one would listen to me. Now the pundits in the Washington. DC loop, as well as ALL the politicians, have been told load and clear - GET ON WITH THE BUSINESS OF THE PEOPLE. The collapse of the Republican right in the current elections is not the result of all the screaming about how terrible President Clinton is but from the actions of one House committee releasing everything they had received from the Star investigation. The tape of the President being drilled by the Star lawyers was the worst. There was no need to release any of it and finally the electorate was able to tell the Republicans enough is enough. I am not condoning the actions of the President. He acted in poor taste and he did lie to a Federal CIVIL case involving sexual harassment where he did not testify honestly about a consensual relationship with someone other then his wife. He's already paid big time for his miss-deeds. Let's get on with life. The Republicans have acted like a bunch of jackals. They have shown no compassion. In America I think we still believe in fair play - you don't kick a man when he is down. The Republicans not only kicked the President, they dragged him through every piece of dirt they could uncover. The Republicans are paying dearly for their actions: Lost 5 seats in the House, Senator Faircloth from North Carolina out. Speaker Gingrich dethrone. I look forward to Judge Star testifying before Congress. He best not get off lightly for what he has done. It's one thing to investigate wrong doing but another to use unethical procedures to do it. Like the Republicans, Judge Star showed no compassion or respect for the private lives of anyone that were in his way of getting President Clinton kicked out of office. Will the Republicans learn from all this? I dought it. They didn't learn anything in the '64, '92 or the '96 elections. Why should today be any different. Their big victory in '94 never really brought them that much. If anything it went to their heads. We shall see. The political soap opera continues. copyright 1998 john s krill |
